Message from the President regarding racism
Dear U of S community,
Like many of you, I have been shocked and saddened by recent examples of race-based violence in Canada and the United States.
Such instances highlight the need to educate our students - and ourselves - about the dangers of racism and to take action to combat it.
At the University of Sudbury, we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming space for all people. This is in keeping with our Jesuit value of cura personalis (care of the person) and our belief that all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. Diversity is not something to be feared but a divine gift to be cherished.
In the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to working with you to enhance our commitment to this core value of the University of Sudbury. Together, we can eradicate racism from our communities, passing on teachings of acceptance, respect and love.
Dr. John Meehan, SJPresident and Vice-Chancellor
