Sudbury/Ottawa, May 13, 2024 The University of Sudbury and Collège La Cité have entered into a techno-pedagogy service offering agreement that will allow the University to leverage existing expertise in French Ontario in the development of courses that will be offered asynchronously. This agreement is part of the University of Sudbury's plan to increase partnerships with all Francophone and bilingual postsecondary institutions in the province to reduce the costs associated with the development and delivery of French-language university programs while creating more choices for students in Northeastern Ontario.

The University of Sudbury is developing courses that will be offered in person, remotely and asynchronously. Courses offered in an asynchronous model offer more flexibility to students since the transmission of knowledge or exchanges take place in a delayed manner.

"The University of Sudbury is continuing its efforts to increase access to French-language university programs in Northeastern Ontario. This agreement with La Cité will pair the academic content experts at the University of Sudbury with those in techno-pedagogy at La Cité to accelerate the creation and launch of innovative and accessible programs for a student population looking for flexible and high-quality solutions," added Serge Miville, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sudbury.

Over the coming months, the University of Sudbury will continue to develop its offering to students who wish to study in French in Northeastern Ontario starting in 2025.

Established in 1913, the University of Sudbury is the first institution in Northern Ontario to offer university-level education. In 1975, the first-ever raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag in the province took place on its campus. The institution received its designation under the French Language Services Act in January 2020. The University of Sudbury acknowledges that it is located on the territory covered by the Robinson-Huron Treaty and that the land it occupies is part of the traditional territories of the Atikameksheng Anishinaabeg and the Wahnapitae First Nation.
