Help with Housing Crunch

Following an open house in May of 2023, the Université de Sudbury is proud to announce the reopening of its residence to support the community of students in the Greater Sudbury area. In total, 173 recently renovated spaces were immediately made available to students in need of affordable and secure housing options that support their academic achievement and active participation in our community. Nearing full capacity, the university concluded agreements with other local postsecondary education institutions to provide access for their students to additional low-cost housing options.

Affordable rates for both single and double rooms offer students more choice for housing in a building designed to meet their needs. All rooms are equipped with the furniture and amenities required to support student achievement and community connectivity. In this way, the UniversitĂ© de Sudbury is contributing to concrete solutions to reduce the impact of the housing crisis on Greater Sudbury’s student population.

“At its core, access to safe, healthy and affordable housing at the UniversitĂ© de Sudbury provides students with an environment that fosters academic success and the student experience. We are proud to make these spaces available in our renovated residence at this critical time of year to ensure that students, including international students, have access to the student experience that Ontario promises,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Serge Miville.

Since 2021, the Université de Sudbury invested over 3.25 million dollars to renovate these spaces and ensure they meet the needs of students while maintaining affordability. By providing urgent relief to the housing crisis, and as it continues to work with government and institutional partners on its academic programming, the Université de Sudbury reaffirms its commitment to the community of students looking for affordable solutions for housing and education close to home and for those beginning their Canadian educational journeys.
